Is the “earnings recession” about to end?
As you probably know, Corporate America is in somewhat of a rut. Earnings for companies in the S&P 500 have fallen five straight quarters. That’s the longest period of declining earnings since the 2008–2009 financial crisis.
But it could all be over soon…
A couple of weeks ago, third-quarter earnings season began. This is when companies tell the world if earnings grew or shrank from the previous quarter. A good earnings season can lift stocks. A bad one can trigger a selloff.
