The deeply discounted gas came at a price.
Like those “free” vacactions where you have to sit through a timeshare sales pitch, drivers waiting on line this morning at the Newport Exxon.
Americans for Prosperity, a non-partisan, conservative political organization sponsored the “Gas Rollback Event” which offered a gallon of regular gas for $1.84, a savings of roughly $1.50 per gallon, to the first 90 customers starting at 7 a.m. this morning.
The conservative group got their money’s worth, as the sale drew a crowd and caused traffic tie-ups in the area. Police blocked off Jersey Avenue, the one-way street adjacent to the gas station, at 12th Street and Jersey Avenue, where the overflow of waiting cars were held at bay.
